CCHS’ annual Scoops & Hoops Match of 2025 was one for the record books! The game kicked off with a bang. The first match was Seniors vs. Freshmen and it ended with an unexpected upset! Seniors were knocked out of the first round by the Freshmen.
The seniors’ loss set up a precedent for the rest of the game! The next round was between Juniors vs. Sophomores. It was a tight match with great showings from both teams. As the game came to an end, the juniors were up, but not by much. The Sophomores hit an unexpected buzzer beater, resulting in another upset. The Sophomores reigned supreme! The crowd goes wild!
Shockingly, neither upperclassmen team made it to the final round among students. Sophomores continued their victory and proceeded to the main event: teachers vs sophomores.
The teachers started Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Wang, Mrs. Angel, Mr. Boucher, and Mr. Sipsey. As the crowd chants and cheers for Mr. Wang, he takes the jump successfully hitting the ball, which is taken by the sophomores, who started out the game strong. Ms. Angell, Mr. Sipsey and many more make strong baskets, taking the lead.
When interviewing Mr. Wang about the immense support from the student section, he responded with, “There are pros and cons. […] because if I do not [do good] then I will be a laughing stock.” However, Mr. Wang and the teachers did extremely well, ending the game with a victory for the 2nd year in a row!
Overall, Scoops & Hoops raised $5,300 for Lazarus’ House! Cheers to Mrs. Chase’s Poverty, Policy & Justice class for another successful event!

I find it so fascinating for all the love and support the students gave to Mr. Wang. I find it so surprising how the teachers beat the students in the games, especially with young and athletic sophomores. Besides the game part, it is so amazing that we were able to raise $5,300 for Lazarus” house. The Hoops and Scoops event is always a fun event to watch, and look forward to. This article helped me give a great explanation of the event.

This article was written very well. I like how you summarized the game quickly without dragging it out. I also like how even though it was quickly summarized the readers who were not at the game would still be able to feel and know what it was like to be there. You used very good descriptive words to capture the feelings of sadness and excitement of the people on the sidelines and the team members. Maybe next year students can break the teachers’ two year streak.

As a freshman at CCHS, this would have been my first year experiencing one of the many CC traditions. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend this special event; therefore, I appreciate the author writing this article. It was very interesting and I loved reading about Mr. Wang’s fan club. I was wondering, how did the Scoops and Hoops tradition first occur and who came up with the idea? Overall, I enjoyed reading this article because it made be feel as if I was present and experiencing the fun! I also think this was an amazing way to help those in need.

This was an incredible set of games to watch, especially since the freshman took down the seniors. Reading this makes me wonder if the seniors could have beat the teachers if they made it to the finals. It is also very interesting reading about who the teachers decided to start. I think it is amazing the students at Central Catholic were able to raise $5,300 towards Lazarus House due to the poverty, policy, and justice class. This was a great article and I enjoyed the interview with Mr. Wang sharing his option about his performance in the games.

I was wondering about how the games and the event went. Reading this article makes me think twice about skipping it this year. It seemed like a fun time and its goes to a good cause. I found the video at the start of the article really funny especially how confident the juniors were about winning. Hopefully next year I will be able to attend for the fun times, great article!
